The other crutch My last post did not contain the usual/normal idea about crutches. Most people want to be healed from a disability and ask Jesus to do so. Jesus is capable of healing our conditions/situations and when we ask, in His name, to be healed, believing, healing can and does occur in some cases. When I broke my ankle, I expected to be healed and one by one, I was able to say good-by to the wheelchair, then the walker, the commode, and the boot. Though it was helpful to have those items available for temporary use, I never intended to use them permanently. Jesus has not chosen to heal me from blindness but when He wants to, I am sure it will happen. It is possible that He is glorified more the way things are. John 9 [ A Man Born Blind Receives Sight ] Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. … In the Bible there are numerous examples of His healing:Matthew 4:23 [ Jesus Heals a Great Multitude ] And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. (NKJ) I knew of a woman who became blind later in life. The rehabilitation agency offered her counseling and training in using alternative techniques, such as learning braille, traveling using a long, white cane, etc, but she refused. She said she would be healed so she would not need such devices or training. She sat in her rocking chair watching tv for the rest of her life. She could have continued cooking for her family, reading audio books or braille, using a computer with synthetic speech, and traveling around by foot using a cane. She chose to be nearly helpless. Thank God, most people who need a crutch use one or they are healed, thus no longer needing the crutch. Just remember to ask, in Jesus’ name, for His will in your situation, for He will help no matter what happens in your life. I also know of a woman who has been healed, not once, but twice, from cancer, when Jesus healed her.
